A concession tender is planned for the commercial spaces available in the Sugar Palace. • For a cafe bar/ pastry shop, which includes a business space with a total area of 90 m² • For the provision of services in tourism, i.e. a tourist or marketing agency which includes a business space with a total area of 101 m² Concessions on the cultural property for the economic use are granted for 10 years. Given that the building has been renovated, the future concessionaires will carry out the necessary construction and interior decoration works at their own expense and equip the space in accordance with the needs of the business. Interested parties can, with prior notice to the Department of Culture, visit and inspect the location and the surrounding area for the purpose of assessing the investment costs of investing in the premises that are the subject of a concession.

Potential partners and collaborators in the project are, apart from the aspect of investments in commercial spaces, free to participate in the development and promotion of temporary or permanent cultural contents, manifestations and similar events that the ship will offer, in agreement with the Department of Culture and City`s cultural institutions.

For the reconstruction and revitalization of the former industrial complex Rikard Benčić, in addition to significant own investments, the City of Rijeka has secured more than 13 million euros in EU funding from the European Regional Development Fund, through the projects “Revitalisation of the Benčić complex – Brick and T-building” and “Tourist Valorization of Notable Industrial Heritage Monuments of Rijeka“.
Thus, the Sugar Palace, opened in November 2020, after renovation and arrangement of the permanent exhibition, become the home of The City Museum of Rijeka. On the ground floor of the Palace, there are commercial spaces intended for a cafe bar/ pastry shop, a bookstore/souvenir shop, and a tourist/marketing agency.
The Brick building become the Children’s House in March 2021. It is the first building of its kind in Croatia intended to encourage the cultural creativity of the youngest, children up to the age of twelve. In it, the following city’s cultural institutions conduct programs especially designed for children; Children’s department of the City Library – Stribor, The Art Cinema, The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and The City Puppet Theatre.
The City Library will be placed in the largest building of the Benčić Complex, the so called T-buiding, after the completion of construction work and furnishing, expected by the end of 2023.
The departments of journalism, science, literature, the public reading room, the department of periodicals and general services will find their place there.
In the Benčić Complex, in addition to all the above mentioned, there is also The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, placed in the so called H-building. In 2017 part of the ground floor and the first floor were arranged for the needs of the museum. The museum will continue to develop in stages, and the recently settled property-legal relations regarding the exchange of real estate with a factory in the neighborhood have made it possible to realize additional potential for the development of exhibition art.
The entire complex received a new water supply, drainage of rainwater and sanitary water, electrical installations, mechanical thermo-technical installation, pumping stations for sanitary drainage and a substation for the needs of the block, as well as a landscaped public area within the district. It takes the form of a park with greenery and an open stream.
