The University of Rijeka (UNIRI), founded in 1973, is a leading European centre for excellence and innovation. Through partnerships with industry, the local community, and the civil sector, UNIRI actively fosters innovation and entrepreneurship by bridging scientific research with business initiatives.
As a member of the YUFE Alliance, the University collaborates with ten European universities to enhance entrepreneurial skills among academic community members, primarily students. Simultaneously, UNIRI is engaged in international networks such as YERUN, contributing to policy development and the exchange of best practices in knowledge valorisation.
As the coordinator of EDIH Adria, one of Europe’s most successful digital innovation hubs, the University supports the digital transformation of businesses and the public sector in Adriatic Croatia. It is also actively involved in innovation initiatives such as INNO2MARE and NAHV – the Northern Adriatic Hydrogen Valley – which focus on sustainable solutions in the maritime and energy sectors.
The University’s central hub for innovation and knowledge transfer is the University Centre for Research and Innovation, which nurtures an innovation-driven culture and knowledge-based entrepreneurship. Additionally, STEP Ri, the University’s science and technology park, provides further support to entrepreneurs and innovators in commercializing research and developing new business ventures.
In collaboration with the Regional Development Agency of the Primorje Gorski Kotar County (PRIGODA), the University has developed RIMAP, a digital innovation platform that connects businesses, academia, and the public sector, further strengthening the region’s innovation ecosystem.
Looking ahead, the development of the Innovation Arena on campus will further drive technological advancements and idea generation, bringing together key stakeholders in the creation and application of new knowledge and technologies.
